Stranded & Suspended
The knotted imagery in the “Tangled Up” and “Stranded and Suspended” series of works originates from tangled piles of kelp stranded on the beach. Intertwined, figural, and fleshy, these now still tubular networks were once tumbling through strong ocean currents; the impact of this migration remains evident on their skin and interweave. In these organic figures I see portraits of the human condition, both individual and global, momentarily frozen and presented in confused, tense layers of interconnection.
